I have over seven years of experience in cognitive research within the field of dementia. During this time, I investigated traditional paper-and-pencil instruments to track clinical onset and disease progression in young-onset dementia (YOD). This work underscored the urgent need for innovative approaches to monitor behaviour and cognition more effectively. Since 2022, I have been leading a new research line on digital health technologies in the field of dementia. My primary motivation is to improve early diagnosis and person-centered support after the diagnosis by shifting from conventional assessments to real-time, unobtrusive digital measurements that capture cognition and behaviour in daily life. To this end, I develop and validate novel digital health technologies, including eye-tracking, smartphone apps, wearables, and virtual reality, targeting YOD as well as other neurodegenerative diseases. With these efforts I aim to bridge the gap between research and implementation into clinical practice, to improve early diagnosis and person-centered care after the diagnosis.
