What are the INDUCT and DISTINCT doctoral candidates up to now?
Between 2016-2019 and 2020-2023, 30 doctoral candidates were trained across Europe in the two international, intersectoral Marie-Curie networks INDUCT and DISTINCT focused on technology and dementia. We were curious how the career of these researchers developed, which positions they hold, and where they are based now. In total, 24 PhD trajectories were completed (23 awarded), and the diverse roles outlined below show the substantial impact the INDUCT and DISTINCT training had:

INDUCT updates
ESR 1 Yvette Vermeer has been awarded her PhD and is an academic writing consultant, lecturer and coach for Write Way Netherlands.
ESR 2 Sebatian Libeert was awarded his PhD in 2021 and is now Senior Project Coordinator for research, at EuroHealthNet based in Brussels.
ESR 3 Sophie Gaber was awarded her PhD in 2021 and is now Associate senior lecturer/ Assistant professor, Uppsala University, Sweden.
ESR 4 Sarah Wallcook was awarded her PhD and is now a Researcher, Stockholm Gerontology Research Centre, affiliated to Division of Nursing, Department of Neurobiology, Care, Sciences, and Society, Karolinska Institutet.
ESR 5 Harleen Rai was awarded her PhD and is now Senior Researcher, Trimbos, Netherlands.
ESR 6 Joeke van der Molen-van Santen was awarded her PhD in 2021 and is now a
policy advisor Diversity department, Municipality of Amsterdam.
ESR 7 Kim Beentjes is now External Relations Officer, World Health Organization, Somalia Country Office.
ESR 8 Sara Bartels was awarded her PhD in2020 and is now Assistant Professor, Department of Psychiatry and Neuropsychology, Alzheimer Centrum Limburg, Maastricht University
ESR 9 Hannah Christie was awarded her PhD in 2020 and is now Lecturer/Assistant professor, RCSI University of Medicine and Health Sciences, Dublin, Ireland.
ESR 10 Rose Miranda was awarded her PhD and is now a Postdoctoral researcher, End of Life Care Research Group, Vrije Universiteit Brussel and University of Ghent.
ESR 11 Annelien Van Dael was awarded her PhD and is now senior policy advisor and program manager, Sigra, Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
ESR 12 Kate Shiells was awarded her PhD in 2020 and is now Senior Evidence and Knowledge Analyst, Public Health Wales.
ESR 13 Angie Alexandra Diaz Baquero was awarded her PhD and is now a Professor, University of Salamanca and neuropsychologist, at the provincial hospital of Zamora.

ESR 2 Esther Loseto-Gerritzen was awarded her PhD in 2023 and is now Research Fellow at the Institute of Mental Health, University of Nottingham, United Kingdom.
ESR 3 Fanny Monnet was awarded her PhD in 2024 and is now postdoctoral researcher at the Centre for Population, Family and Health, University of Antwerp, Belgium.
ESR 4 Simone Anna Felding submitted her PhD in 2025 and is now Research Associate at DZNE, Witten, Germany until 12/2025 and Postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Public Health at University of Copenhagen, Denmark, from 01/2026.
ESR 5 Golnaz Atefi was awarded her PhD in 2025 and is now Senior Research Fellow at Radboud University Medical Centre, the Netherlands, and Senior Research Fellow at University of East Anglia, UK.
ESR 6 David Neal was awarded his PhD in 2024 and is now Assistant Professor at Amsterdam University Medical Centre, the Netherlands.
ESR 7 Mauricio Molinari Ulate was awarded his PhD (Cum Laude) in 2023 and is now Interim Professor at the School of Psychology at the Universidad de Costa Rica and Research Associate at Instituto de Estudios Interdisciplinarios de la NiƱez y la Adolescencia – Universidad Nacional de Costa Rica.
ESR 9 Viktoria Nekola (Viktoria Hoel) was awarded her PhD in 2023 and is now Project manager and regional coordinator for research at the Norwegian Association of Local and Regional Authorities (KS)/ Kristiansand municipality.
ESR 10 Gianna Kohl was awarded her PhD in 2024 and is now Research Fellow at University College London, United Kingdom.
ESR 11 Pascale Heins was awarded her PhD in 2024 and is now postdoctoral researcher at Alzheimer Centrum Limburg, Maastricht University, the Netherlands.

ESR 14 Josephine Tan was awarded her PhD in 2025 and is looking for work in Chicago, USA.
