INTERDEM Spotlight Webinar – Taskforce Prevention

On 5th June 2025, the INTERDEM Prevention Taskforce hosted a Spotlight Webinar titled “Dementia risk reduction: from epidemiology to public health initiatives and intervention studies in routine clinical care”. The interactive session brought together experts to share insights from cutting-edge studies and real-world applications aimed at reducing the risk of dementia.

Presentations included:

  • Dementia risk reduction: current epidemiological evidence

Kay Deckers, Assistant Professor at the Alzheimer Centre Limburg, Maastricht University, provided an overview of the latest epidemiological findings in the field of dementia prevention, highlighting key risk reduction.

  • “Two for the price of one”: a Flemish public health campaign

Jan Steyaert, Scientific Officer at the Flemish Expertise Centre on Dementia, introduced a public health campaign “Two for the price of one” at increasing awareness of dementia risk reduction across Flemish adult population. The website is https://2voordeprijsvan1.be/.

  • Adherence – the key to success? Insights from the AgeWell.de intervention

Felix Wittmann, PhD Candidate at the ISAP Leipzig University, discussed the German AgeWell.de intervention, focusing on the predictors of adherence.

  • Dementia risk reduction in memory clinics

Sophie Wimmers, PhD Candidate at the Alzheimer Centre Limburg, Maastricht University, presented the rationale and design of the ‘Lifestyle Intervention in the Memory Clinics of General and Academic Hospitals Trial’ (LIGHT), a randomized controlled trial aimed at promoting brain health within memory clinic settings. The webinar offered an interactive platform for discussion and knowledge exchange, reinforcing INTERDEM’s commitment to promoting evidence-based strategies for dementia prevention across Europe.
