Advancing Dementia Prevention: INTERDEM Academy’s Collaboration with SPIN-D Network+
INTERDEM has long been at the forefront of psychosocial dementia research, championing early, timely, and quality interventions across Europe. Central to our mission is the development of Early Career Researchers (ECRs) through INTERDEM Academy, fostering a new generation equipped to tackle the multifaceted challenges of dementia care.
In alignment with our commitment to prevention, we are pleased to highlight our collaboration with the SPIN-D Network+ (Sustainable Prevention, Innovation and INvolvement for Dementia), a UK-wide initiative established in 2024. Founded collaboratively by a group of UK universities with a number of charities that work closely with those people living with dementia and their carers, SPIN-D’s mission is to foster collaboration across the UK, taking a co-production approach to include those with lived experience of dementia, to focus on increasing our understanding of how to:
- Prevent the onset of dementia by promoting healthy lifestyles and increasing awareness.
- Delay the progression of symptoms through early detection and management.
- Reduce the impact of dementia by providing comprehensive support and care.
This partnership offers INTERDEM Academy members enhanced opportunities to engage in prevention-focused research and practice. Through joint activities, ECRs can participate in masterclasses, webinars, and collaborative projects that bridge the gap between psychosocial interventions and public health strategies. Furthermore, SPIN-D’s emphasis on Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) complements our own values, providing avenues for ECRs to develop skills in co-producing research with those directly affected by dementia.
How to Join the SPIN-D Early Career Researcher Network
INTERDEM Academy members interested in expanding their involvement in dementia prevention research are encouraged to join the SPIN-D Network+ ECR community. SPIN-D defines ECRs inclusively, encompassing individuals who are:
- Currently pursuing a PhD
- In immediate postdoctoral positions
- Transitioning to independent research roles
To register your interest and stay informed about SPIN-D opportunities, please complete the ECR registration form available at https://spindementianet.org/register-as-an-early-career-researcher/
By integrating our networks, we aim to create a robust platform for knowledge exchange, capacity building, and innovation in dementia prevention. ECRs are encouraged to take advantage of these collaborative opportunities to broaden their research horizons and contribute to meaningful advancements in the field.
