BLOG – INTERDEM and the Alzheimer Europe conference

The European collaboration between INTERDEM and Alzheimer Europe at the Alzheimer Europe conference in Malta was again mutually beneficial. INTERDEM’s  annual meeting was hosted by Alzheimer Europe and INTERDEM contributed to the conference by a symposium, keynote speakers, presentations and posters. INTERDEM, as the largest and strongest research organisation in the world in the field of psychosocial care for people with dementia and their family carers, takes responsibility for moving the field forward.

Since no cure is available, psychosocial research is very important for today’s dementia patients as it contributes to opportunities for living well with dementia. INTERDEM can put research ideas into practice by successful attempts of getting grants. Recently, our collaborative research proposals have been rewarded by 3 Joint Programme Neurodegenerative Diseasese grants (see link).

INTERDEM, although rooted in Europe, collaborates with intercontinental organisations such as ADI and IPA. We support the founding of the Asian-Pacific PROMOTE sister organisation led by Henry Brodaty and Yun-Hee Jeon, launched at the IPA in Seoul and the Latin American sister organisation IBERDEM.

The driving force behind our research efforts is the inspiration to provide high level research of which persons with dementia and their carers can benefit today and in the future.
