About Me<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I am an Associate Professor in Health and Care Sciences and a Senior Lecturer at the School of Health and Welfare, J\u00f6nk\u00f6ping University, Sweden. I have a background as a registered nurse, and my academic journey has always been closely connected to gerontological nursing and to questions arising from health and social care practice. Alongside research and teaching, I am involved in research leadership as Vice Dean of Research. I enjoy working at the intersection of research, practice and societal development.<\/p>\n\n\n

Research Interests<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

My research focuses on care and support for people living with dementia, with a particular interest in how health and social care services can better respond to the needs of people who develop dementia earlier in life and their families, and how support can be organised around their everyday lives rather than around existing service structures. Person-centred care is a central perspective in my research, including questions of participation, autonomy and meaningful everyday life. I am also interested in ethical challenges in dementia care, including coercive and restrictive practices as well as abuse of older people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Methodologically, I primarily work with qualitative, mixed methods approaches and quality register data. To ensure that my research is relevant and addresses questions that matter to those concerned, I have increasingly focused on co-created research and the involvement of people living with dementia, family members, professionals and other stakeholders at different stages of the research process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tell us about a project you are working on now, which is top of your to-do list.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Currently I work on a research project about care and support for people with young-onset dementia and their families in Sweden. Our findings have highlighted how developing dementia earlier in life can create needs that do not always fit existing health and social care structures. In Sweden, formal support is commonly designed for older people and may therefore not adequately meet the needs of younger people with dementia and their families, who are often in a very different phase of life. Building on this work, I am interesting to further explore how and why access to support varies between municipalities in Sweden, and what the consequences of these variations are for people with young-onset dementia and their families. There is also a need to move towards developing and evaluating interventions that can improve care and support in practice, which is something I would like to focus more on in my future research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Looking ahead, I hope to contribute to a stronger international research agenda on young-onset dementia and to develop collaborations that can help translate research into support that is meaningful, equitable and responsive to people\u2019s needs and everyday lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why I joined INTERDEM?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I joined INTERDEM because its focus on psychosocial dementia research closely aligns with my own research. I am especially interested in joining the Young-Onset Dementia Task Force and connecting with researchers who share an interest in improving care and support for people with young-onset dementia and their families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I consider international collaboration to be particularly valuable in this field, as many countries face similar challenges in providing appropriate and equitable support, while services are organised in different ways. Through INTERDEM, I hope to share knowledge from our research in Sweden, learn from colleagues across Europe and contribute to collaborative research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What would it surprise people to know about you?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I spend probably more of my free time than I should watching TV, with a particular weakness for K-dramas. I\u2019m currently trying to learn to appreciate anime, but that is more of a work in progress!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
