In particular, she studies effects of care environments (organizational, physical and social aspects) on people with dementia and their carers, taking a trans-disciplinary perspective (including psychology, nursing science and gerontology). Verbeek uses her expertise also outside the academic world, in her capacity as advisor to the Council for the Elderly and vice-chair of the Living Lab in Ageing and Long-Term Care, a formal and structural collaboration between seven care organizations and four knowledge institutions.

Young Academic talent

The Young Academy (https://www.dejongeakademie.nl/en) consists of talented researchers who share a broad interest in science practice, science policy and science communication. The researchers in question work in a variety of disciplines, have been selected for their scientific achievements, and received their doctorates less than ten years ago. They will be inducted into The Young Academy on 23 March 2020. Membership is for five years, during which time they will promote projects addressing issues in science, science policy and science communication. The Young Academy is an independent body within the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences. Membership lasts five years. As a member of The Young Academy, Hilde Verbeek says she will be looking to promote interdisciplinarity and a greater focus on research teams, instead of individual researchers.

Hilde Verbeek, associate professor in the Department of Health Services Research at Maastricht University, the Netherlands will join The Young Academy, a group of innovative scientists and scholars, in 2020.
